Senior Counsel, Privacy and Compliance
Recursion is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in data privacy and compliance to support the expansion of its clinical trials and compliance infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to develop and maintain a privacy-by-design framework through vendor onboarding, data mapping, policy development, and negotiation of privacy terms in transactions. The position also involves enhancing the compliance function within the Legal department by providing tailored guidance, implementation, and training, while collaborating closely with various functions across the company.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining infrastructure to comply with diverse data privacy regulations, particularly in Europe and other regions supporting clinical trial plans. The role involves reviewing and negotiating data protection terms, data processing agreements, vendor agreements, and security addenda from a privacy standpoint. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will monitor and advise on privacy and compliance developments, support incident response, manage data subject rights requests, conduct privacy impact assessments, and oversee vendor onboarding and maintenance for those processing personal data.
The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience in data privacy counseling within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, either at a law firm or in-house. A strong working knowledge of privacy and data protection laws, including U.S. state privacy laws, GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA, is essential. Experience in reviewing and negotiating privacy, security, and data protection provisions in commercial agreements is required. The candidate should possess excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently. Privacy certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPM are preferred.
Compensation for this role includes an annual base salary ranging from $251,900 to $309,760, along with eligibility for an annual bonus and equity compensation. Recursion offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees.
