Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property
Carvana is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to join its Legal Department, focusing on managing and expanding the company's intellectual property portfolio. This role involves close collaboration with inventors, content creators, and various departments to identify and protect new intellectual property assets, ensuring alignment with Carvana's innovative business model.
Key responsibilities include conducting initial research and strategic recommendations for new portfolio opportunities, analyzing competitor and Carvana patents for infringement and validity assessments, and managing patent prosecution processes. The role also encompasses assisting with trademark prosecution, litigation, and enforcement, as well as supporting advertising and marketing reviews to ensure compliance with intellectual property laws. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will contribute to managing AI governance efforts and enforcement matters related to Carvana’s trademarks and domains.
The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with a United States Bar. A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in intellectual property law, including patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, and enforcement, is required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly are essential. Experience with AI governance and familiarity with UDRP/URS proceedings are advantageous.
