Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property
Carvana is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to join its Legal Department. This role involves managing Carvana's intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and supporting the company's AI governance efforts. The position is based in either Tempe, Arizona, or Los Angeles, California, and requires full-time onsite work from Monday to Friday.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with inventors and content creators to identify new intellectual property opportunities, conducting research, and coordinating with internal and external legal teams. The role also involves analyzing patents for infringement and validity, assisting with trademark prosecution and enforcement, supporting IP litigation, reviewing advertising and marketing materials for compliance, and managing AI-related initiatives in partnership with business teams.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and be members in good standing with a United States Bar. A minimum of 5-7 years of experience providing legal support to sophisticated businesses at a national firm, with expertise in IP litigation, patent prosecution, or trademark/advertising counseling, is required. Superior written and verbal communication skills, strong research abilities, and the capacity to distill complex IP issues into concise summaries are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment, the ability to develop practical business solutions, and comfort with ambiguity.
