Research Associate, Data Engineer
Bridgewater Associates is seeking a Data Engineer to join its Asia Strategies department, focusing on systematic macro and long/short equity strategies in the APAC region. This role involves close collaboration with portfolio managers, quantitative researchers, and developers in a dynamic investment environment. The Data Engineer will be deeply integrated into the investment process, managing the entire data lifecycle that supports alpha research, portfolio construction, and live trading.
Key responsibilities include identifying and assessing new datasets for their relevance to the investment process, building and maintaining a catalog of datasets and vendors, and designing robust, scalable data pipelines. The role also involves ensuring data is research-ready, well-documented, and reproducible across simulation and live environments. Additional duties encompass profiling datasets to understand distributions and coverage gaps, implementing data quality checks, and collaborating with shared data engineering teams to enhance the broader data ecosystem.
Candidates should have 1–5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related role, preferably within systematic investment teams or high-scale, data-intensive technology environments. Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, experience with modern data platforms like Snowflake, and familiarity with distributed processing tools such as Spark or Airflow are essential. The role requires a proven ability to ensure data correctness and reproducibility, as well as experience working with complex datasets, including financial market and reference data.
