The Principal Software Engineer, Identity role at Upstart involves leading the technical vision and execution of the Identity Platform team. This team is responsible for creating, securing, and managing borrower and partner identities across Upstart's loan products, including Personal Loans, Auto Loans, and Home Loans. The company focuses on reducing the cost and complexity of borrowing through advanced AI, partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit.
Key responsibilities include defining the long-term technical direction and roadmap for the Identity and Access Management Platform, ensuring alignment with Upstart’s business objectives. The role involves leading the design, development, and execution of systems that emphasize security and ease of access. Collaboration with the Information Security team is essential to develop standards that protect customer data and build trust. Additionally, the engineer will guide the architectural evolution of Identity engineering systems, focusing on security and scaling innovation across multiple engineering teams.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, along with at least 8 years of experience. Candidates should have experience building highly scalable APIs using containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Kotlin, Ruby, C#, or C++ is necessary. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences are important. A track record of successfully mentoring and developing technical leaders is also required.
