Principal Security Engineer, Data Security
Upstart is seeking a Principal Security Engineer to lead the design and execution of its data security program. This role involves architecting and building scalable software solutions for data protection and governance, while collaborating with various departments to secure sensitive data across diverse domains. The position is available remotely within the United States, with options to work from offices in San Mateo, Columbus, or Austin.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of Upstart's data security program, designing and implementing software solutions such as APIs and internal tools to enhance data protection, and partnering with teams like Engineering, Analytics, Product, Legal, Risk, and HR to ensure comprehensive data security. The role also involves establishing clear goals and success metrics for security initiatives, promoting least-privilege access models, mentoring engineers, and continuously improving systems based on real-world feedback and evolving threats.
Candidates should have extensive experience in enterprise and operational security, with a strong focus on Data Security and Identity & Access Management. Proven leadership in Data Security, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), or Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) initiatives is essential. A solid software engineering background is required, with the ability to design and build production-quality systems. Experience in launching new security capabilities in complex environments, a deep understanding of least-privilege principles, and excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders are also necessary.
The anticipated base salary for this position ranges from $190,600 to $263,900 USD annually, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications.
