Lead Machine Learning Engineer
May Mobility is seeking a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to enhance its autonomous driving capabilities. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, May Mobility develops and deploys autonomous vehicles powered by innovative Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, aiming to create safer, greener, and more accessible urban environments. Since its founding in 2017, the company has provided over 500,000 autonomous rides globally.
In this role, the Lead Machine Learning Engineer will design, train, and evaluate state-of-the-art models for May’s autonomous driving, simulation, and machine learning platform stack. Responsibilities include leveraging emerging techniques in End-to-End driving, Vision Language Action (VLA), World, or Foundation models to solve commercial-scale problems, leading small cross-functional teams, and defining data balance, training experiments, and evaluation practices to efficiently train at petabyte scale.
The ideal candidate will have extensive practical experience in domains such as Vision Language Action Models, Generative World Models, Foundation Models in Robotics, or Data-Centric AI. A minimum of four years of industry experience working on commercial robotics systems and at least one year mentoring machine learning engineers in a commercial or lab environment are required. A Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, along with strong programming skills in Python/PyTorch in a Linux environment, is essential. Practical experience handling the “Long Tail” problem in machine learning and a functional understanding of LiDAR, Camera, and Radar processing techniques are also necessary.
