Lead Data Scientist
Smarsh, a leading provider of communications data intelligence solutions, is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join their Applied Machine Learning division. This role offers the flexibility to be based in Atlanta, New York, or remotely within the United States. As a Lead Data Scientist specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Financial Compliance, you will play a pivotal role in developing advanced AI-driven solutions that enhance compliance and surveillance systems. Your work will focus on analyzing unstructured data from various communication channels to identify and mitigate risks such as insider trading, market manipulation, and other forms of misconduct.
In this position, you will lead the design, training, and deployment of NLP and transformer-based models tailored for financial surveillance applications. Your responsibilities will include collecting and analyzing large datasets to extract meaningful insights, developing machine learning models, and ensuring their integration into production environments. You will also mentor junior team members, contribute to model governance and documentation, and collaborate with product managers to translate project requirements into technical tasks. Your expertise will be instrumental in advancing Smarsh's mission to provide innovative compliance solutions to its clients.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial markets and regulatory technology, with experience in data science and machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, H2O, Keras, PyTorch, TensorFlow, pandas, and NumPy. Proficiency in NLP techniques, including transfer learning and transformer models like BERT and GPT, is essential. A solid foundation in statistics and programming concepts, along with familiarity with microservices architecture and continuous delivery in machine learning, will be advantageous. Experience with natural language processing toolkits such as NLTK, spaCy, and Nvidia NeMo is also desirable.
