Innovation Data Scientist
Kirkland & Ellis, a leading global law firm, is seeking an Innovation Data Scientist to join its Innovation Engineering team. This role focuses on designing and deploying AI-driven solutions that enhance the firm's legal services and operational efficiency. The Innovation Engineering team collaborates closely with attorneys and business leaders to integrate advanced analytics and artificial intelligence into the firm's practices.
The Innovation Data Scientist will lead the development of intelligent applications by translating complex legal workflows into AI solutions. Responsibilities include building and evaluating AI/ML techniques, such as retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and vector database integrations, to assess feasibility and scalability. The role also involves developing solutions for contract analysis, due diligence review, and document summarization, as well as establishing evaluation frameworks to monitor accuracy, robustness, and fairness of AI applications.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related quantitative field, with an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of seven years of experience delivering AI/ML solutions in professional services, financial services, legal, or technical environments is required. Proficiency in Python for data analysis and AI/ML prototyping, advanced SQL skills, and experience with AI platforms like OpenAI and Microsoft Azure OpenAI are essential. Familiarity with legal use cases such as due diligence and contract review is advantageous.
The position offers a competitive base salary, with ranges varying by location. For example, in Chicago, the range is $158,000 to $187,000, while in New York, it is $158,000 to $208,000.
