The Director, System Safety at May Mobility will lead the company's product safety initiatives, focusing on the Level 4 (L4) safety case, Driver-Out deployment plans with strategic ride-hail partners, and the development of the Safety Management System (SMS). Reporting to the Vice President of Safety & Validation, this role manages a multidisciplinary team across systems, test execution, and safety risk and process management. The Director will execute the next 18 months of L4 commercial expansion across the US and Japan.

Key responsibilities include leading a team across systems, test execution, and safety risk and process management; driving the Driver-Out gated deployment plan with partners such as Lyft and Uber; owning the Safety Case Framework for May's L4 systems, including hazard analysis and risk assessments; building and operationalizing the SMS; defining safety architecture in collaboration with Autonomy, Validation, and Hardware teams; executing May's L4 Japan compliance plan; co-leading strategic partner safety meetings; and hiring and developing safety team members.

The ideal candidate will have experience in L4 safety case architecture, including ML-aware analysis; an AI-native safety mindset with experience in building safety arguments for learned components; a data-driven approach to safety, utilizing vehicle telemetry and operational metrics; experience in Driver-Out deployment execution; strong partner and regulator engagement skills; proven people leadership experience; and a background in SMS and safety process development.
