As the Director of Software Engineering for the Mobile Platform at Upstart, you will lead and expand the Mobile Platform organization, shaping and driving the overall mobile platform strategy. With the majority of customer interactions now occurring via mobile, this channel is central to Upstart's continued growth and ability to operate as a multi-product company. Your leadership will ensure that the mobile platform reliably supports every current and future product, delivering a seamless, engaging, and high-performing customer experience.

Key responsibilities include defining and driving the mobile platform vision by establishing a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration. You will lead and grow a high-performing team by recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineering leaders and individual contributors, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. Additionally, you will deliver a world-class mobile experience by leading the development of a robust, native iOS application that enables users to apply for loans, manage their accounts, and handle repayments seamlessly. Operationalizing success metrics by establishing clear KPIs to measure engineering efficiency, product performance, and business impact is also essential. Furthermore, you will drive automation and process improvements by championing best practices in mobile development, CI/CD, testing, and deployment, and engage in strategic roadmapping and prioritization by partnering with cross-functional teams to develop and execute medium- and long-term mobile strategies.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading mobile engineering teams in high-growth, consumer-facing technology companies. A strong background in native mobile development using React Native (both iOS and Android preferred), including deep expertise in engineering best practices, frameworks, and scalable architectures, is required. Demonstrated ability to scale and structure teams, balancing technical leadership with people management, is essential. Experience working closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to develop customer-centric mobile experiences is also important. A data-driven mindset, with a strong ability to measure impact and drive continuous improvement, is highly valued.

Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary, with the anticipated range between $228,300 and $315,900 USD, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications. In addition to base pay, Upstart provides target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans.
