Director of Fair Lending
The Director of Fair Lending at Upstart leads the Fair Lending team within the Risk and Compliance organization, playing a pivotal role in promoting responsible innovation and expanding access to affordable credit. This position involves close collaboration with Legal, Product, Machine Learning, and Compliance teams to assess, manage, and mitigate fair lending risks across Upstart's products and services.
Key responsibilities include owning the fair lending risk assessment framework, providing independent guidance on control design, and identifying and escalating risks in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders. The role also involves defining and executing a comprehensive fair lending risk assessment program, leveraging data and analytics to identify emerging risk themes, and leading cross-functional initiatives to drive alignment and risk-informed outcomes.
Candidates should have over 10 years of experience in fair lending and consumer protection compliance within financial services or fintech, including direct ownership of ECOA/FHA programs. Deep knowledge of fair lending and consumer protection laws across the credit lifecycle is essential. Experience in designing and operationalizing second-line risk management or compliance programs, as well as leading enterprise-wide fair lending initiatives and engaging effectively with regulators, is required.
