Deputy City Solicitor – Code & Public Nuisance Litigation Unit
The Deputy City Solicitor position in the Code & Public Nuisance Litigation Unit involves representing the City of Philadelphia in legal actions to enforce the Philadelphia Code. This role is part of the Law Department's Litigation Group, which addresses a broad spectrum of enforcement matters to uphold public health, safety, and welfare.
Key responsibilities include initiating affirmative litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas for code violations, defending the City in statutory appeals before various boards, and managing emergency injunctive actions in both state and federal courts. The attorney will handle a substantial caseload, conduct depositions, engage experts, draft pleadings and motions, and present cases in court.
Candidates must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited institution and be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligible for admission by reciprocity. A minimum of five years of litigation experience is required, with a preference for experience in code enforcement or related areas. Strong analytical, research, and communication skills are essential.
