Democracy Forward is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented law student for a summer internship with its Democracy 2025 initiative. This program aims to support the pro-democracy legal movement by providing infrastructure and resources to partner organizations. The internship is based in Washington, D.C., with an expected duration from May 26, 2026, to July 31, 2026.

As a Legal Intern, you will assist the Democracy 2025 team by tracking and analyzing new and existing litigation, developing legal resources, and supporting internal and external events. Your responsibilities will include monitoring federal and state court dockets, updating internal trackers and databases, and synthesizing litigation developments into actionable summaries. Additionally, you will contribute to creating legal resources such as litigation memos and practical guides to support coalition members.

Ideal candidates are currently enrolled as full-time students at an accredited law school and have 1–2 years of experience in a writing- or research-intensive role, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven environment. Proficiency with legal research tools like Westlaw and familiarity with dockets such as PACER are essential. Strong writing, communication, time management, and analytical problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

The internship offers a stipend of $10,000 for the summer. Interns are expected to be in the office an average of 2-3 days per week. Democracy Forward values a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals.

Joining Democracy Forward provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful work that supports democracy and social progress. As part of the Democracy 2025 initiative, interns will be involved in a coordinated effort to address threats to democracy through legal strategies and collaboration with a wide range of organizations.
