Data Science Lead - AML Risk
Wise is seeking a Data Science Lead to join their Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Risk team in London. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and lead a team focused on developing machine learning-based solutions for AML detection across all Wise licenses. In this position, the Data Science Lead will be responsible for developing efficient and effective AML detection controls using a combination of unsupervised, semi-supervised, and supervised learning techniques, including Generative AI. They will create frameworks to assess control coverage at regional levels and develop technologies to serve Wise's diverse international user base. Additionally, the role involves building a high-performing team by collaborating with product managers and engineering leads to understand staffing requirements, hiring specialists, and mentoring junior team members.
The ideal candidate should have experience in implementing, training, testing, and evaluating machine learning systems, with strong proficiency in Python and object-oriented programming principles. A background in statistical analysis and the ability to design well-structured experiments are essential. The role requires a strong product mindset, the ability to work independently in a cross-functional environment, and effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Problem-solving skills are crucial for refining problem statements and developing solutions.
While not mandatory, familiarity with automating operational processes through technical solutions, such as Large Language Models, is advantageous. Experience within the Financial Crime domain is also beneficial. Wise offers a competitive salary range of £85,000 to £115,000 per year for this role.
