Creative Technology Manager
Duolingo is seeking a Creative Technology Manager to enhance the integration of art and animation within its products, aiming to create more engaging and interactive user experiences. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Creative Technology and collaborates closely with Product, Design, Animation, and Engineering teams. Duolingo is renowned for its commitment to high-quality design and user-friendly interfaces, striving to make education both accessible and enjoyable.
The Creative Technology Manager will be responsible for building interactive, animated user interfaces using tools like Rive, ensuring scalability and repeatability. The role involves developing prototypes with design tools and basic engineering to create demo applications. Additionally, the manager will address complex problems by assisting designers and engineers in implementing innovative ideas into the app. Advancing the design and animation tool ecosystem through strategic upgrades, automation solutions, and best practice guidance is also a key aspect of the position.
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in roles related to creative technology, such as technical or procedural animation, scripting gameplay, or state machines. A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in these areas is essential. The role requires a proven track record of driving projects that effectively solve clear problems, with the ability to communicate trade-offs, ideas, and recommendations succinctly to managers, engineers, and artists. Willingness to relocate to New York City or Pittsburgh, PA, is necessary.
Exceptional candidates will have experience with interactive animation for mobile content, a background in small game studios, VFX houses, or tech start-ups, and proficiency with Rive. General 3D skills, including modeling, texturing, rigging, and animating, as well as an understanding of game design principles and player experience, are highly desirable.
Duolingo offers a competitive salary range of $174,250 to $294,000 USD, along with equity compensation and comprehensive benefits.
