Creative Technology Manager

The Creative Technology Manager at Duolingo plays a pivotal role in enhancing the company's products through engaging, immersive, and interactive art and animation. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Creative Technology and collaborates closely with Product, Design, Animation, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality, user-friendly experiences.

Key responsibilities include building interactive, animated user interfaces using technologies like Rive, developing prototypes with design tools and basic engineering, and solving complex problems to bring bold creative ideas to life. The role also involves advancing Duolingo's design and animation tool ecosystem through strategic upgrades, automation solutions, and best practice guidance, while identifying and promoting new technologies to enhance animation, automation, and interactivity.

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in roles related to creative technology, such as technical or procedural animation, scripting gameplay, or state machines. A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in these areas is essential. The ability to effectively communicate trade-offs, ideas, and recommendations to managers, engineers, and artists is crucial. Applicants must be willing to relocate to New York City or Pittsburgh, PA.

Exceptional candidates will have experience with interactive animation for mobile content, working at small game studios, VFX houses, or tech start-ups, proficiency with Rive, general 3D skills like modeling, texturing, rigging, and animating, and an understanding of game design principles and player experience.
