Assistant General Counsel, IP
As Assistant General Counsel – IP at Intuitive, you will play a pivotal role in protecting and leveraging the company's intellectual property assets. Collaborating closely with engineers and business personnel, you will manage and develop substantial invention and international patent portfolios, ensuring the company's innovations are effectively safeguarded. This position is integral to advancing Intuitive's mission of transforming surgical care through minimally invasive technologies.
Key responsibilities include leading invention identification meetings, reviewing invention disclosures, and overseeing outside counsel on patent filings and other IP activities. You will perform reviews of external patents, support IP due diligence, transactional, licensing, and litigation activities, and provide strategic advice on patent, trade secret, and other IP matters. Additionally, you will offer IP training to company personnel and mentor junior members of the IP team.
The ideal candidate holds a Juris Doctorate, is registered with the USPTO, and is a member of the California bar or eligible to be a California Registered In-House Counsel. A strong background in engineering or physical sciences, particularly in mechanical engineering or physics, is preferred. With at least 12 years of experience in intellectual property, including 8 years in patent preparation and prosecution, the candidate should possess excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Intuitive offers a competitive compensation package, with salaries ranging from $202,100 to $342,200, depending on the region.
