UX Designer - Growth/Monetization
xAI is seeking a passionate UX Designer specializing in Growth and Monetization to lead the end-to-end subscription experience for its consumer and platform products. This role involves designing intuitive, high-conversion user journeys that transform curious users into loyal subscribers by optimizing discovery, pricing, checkout, onboarding, billing, upgrades, downgrades, retention strategies, and churn prevention. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with growth leads, engineers, researchers, and revenue stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into elegant, accessible, and delightful experiences that directly impact sign-ups, retention, expansion revenue, and lifetime value.
Key responsibilities include leading Growth UX initiatives for subscription products and monetization features across web, mobile, and cross-platform surfaces. The designer will conduct targeted user research—such as funnel analysis, usability testing, interviews, surveys, and A/B test deep-dives—focused on subscription decision points, translating insights into high-impact design decisions. They will create subscription-specific deliverables like user personas, journey maps, service blueprints, growth funnels, task flows, and pricing and billing architectures. Additionally, the role involves designing and prototyping high-conversion flows, including discovery and pricing pages, checkout processes, account and billing management, upgrade paths, retention sequences, and win-back experiences. Collaboration with growth, product, and engineering teams to define requirements, technical constraints, experiment roadmaps, and prioritization is essential. The designer will also facilitate design critiques, growth workshops, and rapid alignment sessions with cross-functional stakeholders, operating in continuous discovery and delivery cycles with a strong bias toward rapid experimentation and iteration. Maintaining and evolving design-system components for all subscription touchpoints in partnership with UI designers is also a key aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate will have 3–7+ years of professional UX design experience with a strong emphasis on growth UX, subscription products, SaaS monetization, or consumer subscription apps. A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of shipped subscription or growth features is required, including case studies with clear problem statements, processes, design decisions, experiments run, and quantifiable business outcomes such as conversion lifts, churn reduction, and revenue impact. Mastery of modern UX tools like Figma (primary), FigJam or Miro, and familiarity with at least one advanced prototyping tool beyond Figma (such as ProtoPie, Framer, or Principle) is expected. A solid command of user-centered design principles, interaction patterns, accessibility (WCAG), and growth-design best practices—including friction removal, progressive disclosure, personalization, and loss aversion—is essential. Proven experience conducting and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative research, including funnel and deep-dive analysis and A/B test interpretation, is required. Excellent communication and storytelling skills are necessary to present and defend designs to non-designers using data and growth narratives. Comfort with working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with imperfect information and aggressive growth targets is also important.
Preferred qualifications include direct experience designing subscription experiences for consumer products and a track record of optimizing pricing pages, checkout flows, billing portals, or churn-prevention sequences with measurable revenue impact. Deep familiarity with experimentation frameworks (such as A/B testing, multivariate, and bandit tests) and growth metric frameworks (like AARRR or Pirate Metrics, North Star metrics, and retention curves) is advantageous. Hands-on experience contributing to design systems and reusable subscription component libraries is desirable. Previous exposure to front-end development basics, including HTML/CSS, responsive behavior, and design tokens, is beneficial. A background in service design, content strategy, or UX writing for monetization and retention touchpoints is also preferred.
The compensation for this role ranges from $120,000 to $280,000 USD annually. The base salary is just one part of xAI's total rewards package, which also includes equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and various other discounts and perks.
