Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer - BIOS/Firmware
Canonical is seeking an Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer specializing in BIOS and firmware to enhance the stability, reliability, and performance of Ubuntu on x86/amd64 platforms. This role involves collaborating with the Kernel Team responsible for building, maintaining, and distributing the Linux kernel for Ubuntu.
Key responsibilities include working closely with the PC platform enablement team and vendors to resolve issues related to BIOS, UEFI, ACPI, and other boot and configuration challenges. The engineer will also contribute to and maintain the Firmware Test Suite (FWTS), improve tooling and automation for verifying Ubuntu Linux on x86 platforms, and submit, review, and apply kernel patches in coordination with internal and external upstream maintainers.
The ideal candidate is a well-organized, self-motivated individual capable of thriving in a remote work environment. They should possess significant programming experience in C, a strong understanding of ACPI and UEFI, familiarity with the x86 bootstrap process, and a solid background with git. Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are essential. The role requires the ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
