The Ubuntu Enablement Engineer role at Canonical involves collaborating with leading OEMs, ODMs, and silicon partners to optimize Ubuntu's performance on their hardware platforms. This position is integral to ensuring a seamless user experience for millions of Ubuntu users worldwide. Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, is a globally distributed company with over 1,200 colleagues across 75+ countries, emphasizing open-source software and operating systems for enterprise and technology markets.

Key responsibilities include working closely with partners on platform bring-up, debugging and prioritizing issues, and facilitating communication between Ubuntu, firmware, and hardware engineering teams. The engineer will also conduct root cause analyses, provide technical training to partners, and offer factory support during production preparations. The role requires occasional international travel to regions such as the EU, USA, Taiwan, and China.

Candidates should possess strong skills in Linux kernel, boot, and system-level architecture, along with proficiency in Linux debugging and resolution. Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. An undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling alternative narrative is required. The ability to work productively in a globally distributed team and a willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events are also necessary.
