Technical Lead – Financial Crime Compliance
Gusto is seeking a Technical Lead for Financial Crime Compliance to join their Financial Crime Compliance Oversight & Advisory team. This role focuses on the technical delivery and enablement of financial crime oversight capabilities, ensuring that data, tooling, automation, and integrations are reliable, scalable, and audit-ready. Operating at the intersection of financial crime compliance, engineering enablement, data infrastructure, and responsible automation and AI governance, the position involves translating oversight requirements into technical specifications and coordinating with Engineering and Product teams.
Key responsibilities include translating financial crime oversight requirements into technical specifications, owning dashboards and metrics pipelines, supporting rule tuning and AI-enabled control changes, leading the build and stabilization of oversight tooling and third-party integrations, implementing logging and monitoring for audits and regulatory exams, and partnering with Product and Engineering counterparts to coordinate integrations and embed AI-aware oversight requirements into system design and delivery.
Candidates should have over six years of experience in technical program delivery, engineering enablement, or compliance-related technology roles within a regulated FinTech, payments, or financial services environment. Experience with automated, rules-based, or AI-enabled systems in regulated environments, particularly AML transaction monitoring and screening systems, is essential. A strong understanding of data pipelines, dashboards, system integrations, and monitoring infrastructure is required, along with experience delivering and maintaining third-party vendor integrations. The role demands the ability to manage cross-functional initiatives across Engineering, Product, Data, and Compliance teams, strong communication skills, and a builder mindset with strong execution discipline.
This hybrid role is based in one of Gusto’s offices in Denver, New York, or San Francisco, with in-office expectations of at least two days per week. The starting annual cash compensation ranges from $110,000 to $136,000 in Denver and $133,000 to $164,000 for New York/San Francisco, with final offer amounts determined by factors including candidate location, experience, and expertise. Compensation also includes an equity package and performance bonuses.
