Technical Director, Generative AI
As a Technical Director specializing in Generative AI at Monks, you will lead the technical direction, planning, and delivery of AI-driven production work across key client accounts. This role is part of the Transformation and Applied AI team, focusing on building and scaling AI pipelines for image, video, text, and content generation. You will collaborate closely with Solution Leads and Creative Directors to ensure that projects are realistically deliverable from a technical perspective.
Your primary responsibilities include owning the technical delivery from initial estimations through to final production, defining technical approaches for AI-driven projects, and translating ambiguous briefs into clear technical plans. You will assemble and guide the appropriate technical team, validate feasibility, manage trade-offs between budget, timeline, and technical complexity, and ensure technical quality throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year in a Technical Director or similar production-focused leadership role, and over five years of hands-on experience in areas such as Creative Technology, Software Development, 3D/VFX, or Real-time Engines. A solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, experience with AI/generative pipelines beyond text-to-image, and strong communication skills are essential. Additional qualifications include experience integrating APIs and automation workflows, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
