Staff System Software Engineer
As a Staff System Software Engineer at Graphcore, you will join the drivers and utilities team within the system software department. This team collaborates closely with software engineers developing the Poplar SDK and with silicon and hardware engineers working on Graphcore's Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU) solutions. Your role will involve designing, implementing, testing, and documenting operating system kernel and device driver software to ensure optimal performance of Graphcore's cutting-edge AI products.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing high-quality OS kernel and device driver software using C, C++, and Python. You will participate in agile development processes, working as part of a scrum team to deliver software efficiently. Effective communication is essential, as you will regularly engage in technical discussions with peers in software and hardware engineering, architects, and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will be hands-on during key product development phases, collaborating closely with hardware and silicon engineering groups to facilitate rapid time-to-market delivery.
The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience in software development using languages such as C, C++, and Python. Experience in OS kernel and device driver development and deployment on Linux or Windows systems is essential. A solid understanding of lower-level software stacks and their interactions with hardware layers is required. Effective problem-solving skills and familiarity with a comprehensive suite of debugging and performance analysis tools are necessary. Experience with technologies such as PCIe, CPUs, device drivers, SoCs, firmware, and hardware/software integration is also important. Proactivity in seeking engineering or management input to resolve issues, self-motivation in scheduling workload, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. The ability to work well within a multinational team and with multinational customers, along with excellent cultural awareness, is crucial.
