Staff Software Engineer - Singapore
Agoda is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Back End Engineering team in Singapore. This team is responsible for building scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host Agoda's core business logic, covering areas such as inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, and payments. The Staff Software Engineer will architect and develop highly scalable, mission-critical back-end systems. Responsibilities include owning significant portions of Agoda's system, from vision to bytecode level, enabling impactful collaboration on large projects, and enhancing the quality of services, code, and architecture. The role also involves providing thoughtful feedback, fostering an inclusive engineering environment, and championing engineering fundamentals. Additionally, the engineer will identify and implement optimization opportunities across the technology stack, focusing on cost, efficiency, velocity, and developer satisfaction, while exhibiting technical leadership and conveying complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
Candidates should have over 10 years of experience in engineering roles, with proven hands-on experience owning production services and significant impact on design, development, deployment, monitoring, and evolution. Strong programming skills in languages such as Kotlin, Scala, Java, or C# are required. The role demands curiosity and staying updated on technological advancements, the ability to perform deep research and make decisions on complex projects, and strong communication skills to explain complex technical details to stakeholders at all levels. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's or Ph.D. in a technical field, experience with Kubernetes for effective container orchestration and scaling, deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and practices relevant to machine learning, and experience in programming with Rust, C, or other low-level languages.
