Staff Software Engineer (BE/ML) - Compliance & Readiness
Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (BE/ML) to join their Compliance and Readiness team in Warsaw, Poland. This team is dedicated to ensuring safe and delightful experiences for all riders by collaborating closely with the Operations team to detect and prevent events such as lost items or passengers in incorrect seats. The role involves leveraging data pipelines and machine learning models to enhance rider safety and satisfaction.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will guide all technical aspects of development, including defining technical requirements, designing solutions, implementing features, conducting unit testing, and overseeing integration processes. You will work on training large language models (LLMs) tailored to Waymo's specific use cases and apply multimedia machine learning techniques, such as image recognition and video analysis. Additionally, you will build machine learning data pipelines to assess model precision and recall, design and productionize AI solutions using Google Cloud capabilities, and collaborate cross-functionally with teams like Operations and Remote Assistance.
The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least six years of experience in backend technologies, including C++ and Spanner. Experience in setting technical direction for engineering teams and managing projects across multiple teams is essential. Proficiency in Python and/or C++ is required, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Gemini APIs or other machine learning multimedia APIs, experience with Google infrastructure such as Spanner, Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers, and OnePlatform, a background in the self-driving car industry, and prior experience as an Engineering Lead.
