Staff Platform Engineer
Topstep, a leading financial technology company specializing in trader education and funding, is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join their team. This role is integral to shaping the company's infrastructure and operational excellence, ensuring that product teams can deliver with speed and confidence. As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will be at the forefront of defining and implementing best practices in platform engineering within a fast-growing fintech environment.
In this position, you will provide technical leadership for infrastructure, reliability, and observability, driving architectural decisions and platform standards. Your responsibilities will include building and maturing the platform engineering practice, defining service-level objectives (SLOs), incident response protocols, on-call standards, and operational runbooks. You will own the observability stack using tools like Datadog and CloudWatch, design and evolve AWS infrastructure for reliability and cost efficiency, and lead the development of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Additionally, you will drive infrastructure-as-code strategy with Terraform, lead incident response and post-mortems, and mentor engineers across the organization on infrastructure and reliability practices.
The ideal candidate will have over seven years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure Engineering, with a proven track record of building scalable practices across multiple teams. Expertise in AWS infrastructure, including services like EKS, EC2, RDS/Aurora, and CloudFront, is essential. Strong proficiency with Datadog for end-to-end observability and experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines are required. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments, solid knowledge of distributed systems, networking, and database performance, and deep familiarity with Terraform for multi-account infrastructure management are also necessary. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence engineering culture through documentation, tooling, mentorship, and technical leadership are crucial.
