Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Credit Products (Square Financial Services)

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer on the Credit and Lending team at Square Financial Services, you will play a pivotal role in developing predictive intelligence that drives Block's credit products. These products provide unique access to credit for customers who are often underserved by traditional financial institutions. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of regulated banking and advanced autonomous systems, contributing significantly to the company's growth and profitability.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the full credit modeling stack, ensuring robust integration into production environments. Your day-to-day activities will include evaluating alternative external data sources, deploying advanced machine learning architectures to enhance predictive accuracy, and leading complex ML operations and infrastructure initiatives. Additionally, you will support team members in updating existing models and troubleshooting issues in real-time production settings.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 6 years with a Master's degree, or 3 years with a PhD, focusing on developing and deploying machine learning and statistical models in production environments. A degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Engineering is required. Strong quantitative intuition, data visualization skills, and full-stack proficiency are essential. The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving are also important.

Compensation for this role ranges from $194,500 to $343,100 annually, depending on location and experience.
