As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer on Wayve’s Core Model Safety team within AV Core, you will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the safety and reliability of our end-to-end autonomous driving models. This position offers the opportunity to work in a focused, high-impact team, contributing to foundational capabilities such as collision avoidance, scene understanding, and model robustness. Wayve, founded in 2017, is a leader in Embodied AI technology, aiming to create autonomous systems that can navigate complex environments without reliance on detailed maps.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving the Core Model Safety roadmap, overseeing the full lifecycle from research to offline and online experiments, and facilitating technology transfer. Your tasks will include training and deploying end-to-end AV 2.0 models across our global fleet, utilizing large-scale, diverse data to validate capabilities and enhance generalization across various vehicles, markets, and driving conditions. Additionally, you will build high-value open-loop and closed-loop evaluations for core capabilities and representation learning, aligning priorities with AV Core, Evaluation, and Product Engineering teams, and mentoring team members.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in machine learning engineering, including navigating ambiguous problems from scoping to establishing directions for others. Proficiency in Python and other relevant languages (e.g., C++ and CUDA), along with expertise in ML frameworks like PyTorch, is essential. Hands-on experience with transformer-based and multimodal architectures, such as vision-language models (VLM) and vision-language-action models (VLA), is required. Additionally, experience in training shared representations with multiple tasks or objectives and demonstrating staff-level technical leadership is crucial.

This full-time position is based in our Sunnyvale office, operating under a hybrid working policy that combines in-office collaboration with remote work. The estimated salary for this role ranges from $336,400 to $370,300, complemented by a competitive equity package. Actual compensation will be based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. Wayve is committed to creating an inclusive work environment that values diversity and fosters professional growth.
