Staff Engineer, Storage Engine
CoreWeave is seeking a Staff Engineer to join their Storage Engine Team, which is responsible for the product capabilities and data plane function of CoreWeave’s managed storage products. The team focuses on building reliable, scalable storage solutions with industry-leading performance to meet the demands of AI workloads. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of exabyte-scale, S3-compatible object storage and integrate dedicated storage clusters into diverse customer environments.
In this position, you will design and implement distributed storage solutions to support scaling data-intensive AI workloads. Your responsibilities will include working with technologies such as RDMA, GPU Direct Storage, and distributed filesystem protocols like NFS or FUSE to optimize storage performance and efficiency. You will lead efforts to improve the reliability, durability, security, and observability of the storage stack, collaborating with operations teams to monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance storage systems in production environments. Additionally, you will develop metrics and dashboards to provide visibility into storage performance and health, analyze telemetry and system data to drive improvements in throughput, latency, and resilience, and work cross-functionally with platform, product, and infrastructure teams to deliver seamless storage capabilities across the stack. Mentoring other engineers on best practices in building distributed, high-performance systems is also a key aspect of this role.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with 8–10+ years of experience in storage systems engineering or infrastructure. Strong hands-on experience with object storage or distributed filesystems in production environments is essential. Proficiency in a systems programming language such as Go, C, or Rust is required, as well as familiarity with storage observability tools and telemetry pipelines like ClickHouse, Prometheus, and Grafana. Experience working with cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, and scalable system architectures is also necessary.
The base salary range for this role is $188,000 to $275,000, determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition to base salary, the total rewards package includes a discretionary bonus, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance fully paid by CoreWeave, company-paid life insurance, voluntary supplemental life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending account, health savings account, tuition reimbursement, participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), mental wellness benefits through Spring Health, family-forming support provided by Carrot, paid parental leave, flexible, full-service childcare support with Kinside, 401(k) with a generous employer match, flexible PTO, catered lunch each day in office and data center locations, a casual work environment, and a work culture focused on innovative disruption.
