Staff Data Engineer
The Staff Data Engineer role at Agoda is integral to the Data Core Apps team, which operates large-scale systems across multiple data centers, handling millions of writes per second and managing tens of petabytes of data. In this role, the engineer will design and develop software services and platform components, including APIs and backend services, to support data and metadata workflows. Responsibilities encompass end-to-end delivery of medium-to-large initiatives, building and maintaining data integrations and pipelines, driving system design and architecture decisions, and ensuring operational excellence through observability, alerting, and incident response support. The engineer will also focus on improving system reliability and scalability through performance tuning and capacity planning.
Candidates should have over seven years of experience in software and data engineering, with expert-level knowledge of Apache Spark and proficiency in Java or Scala. Strong SQL skills, familiarity with Python for scripting, and experience with Linux systems administration are essential. The role requires a good understanding of data architecture principles and experience with big data ecosystems and tools such as Hadoop, S3, and Kafka. Analytical problem-solving capabilities are also crucial.
