Staff Applied AI Software Engineer (Python) - Patient (x/f/m)
Doctolib is seeking a Staff Applied AI Software Engineer to join its Patient domain team in Paris, France. This role focuses on transforming the Doctolib application into a comprehensive health companion powered by AI, aiming to assist patients in managing their health with accuracy, empathy, and safety. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing an AI-powered chat feature designed to address patients' health-related inquiries effectively.
Key responsibilities include designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade agentic systems that tackle significant health challenges for patients. The engineer will collaborate closely with data scientists to create and implement evaluation pipelines, establish security and safety guardrails, and define relevant metrics. Additionally, the role involves rapidly validating hypotheses using offline evaluation datasets and conducting A/B tests on live traffic. Developing and sustaining core agentic capabilities—such as memory, reasoning orchestration, and tool adapters—while ensuring robust observability, fallback mechanisms, and fail-safe behaviors is also essential. The engineer will oversee performance, observability, and security aspects, including monitoring dashboards, service level objectives/indicators, and security posture, all while ensuring privacy and security are integral to the design.
Candidates should possess over six years of experience as a software engineer, with significant expertise in Python. Experience in managing the full lifecycle of AI products at scale—from initial evaluation and launch to iterative improvements based on production outcomes—is crucial. A strong understanding and promotion of best practices related to the software development life cycle, including automated testing, effective use of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and DevOps practices, are required. The role demands a product-oriented mindset, with the ability to guide teammates in balancing business needs with technical constraints. Proficiency in English for daily communication within the team is also necessary.
