Staff Applied AI Engineer
Join the IT Engineering team at Checkr as a Staff Applied AI Engineer, where you will lead AI enablement and solutions engineering across all departments. This high-visibility, hands-on role combines deep technical expertise with a passion for teaching and empowering others. You will be instrumental in understanding team-specific requirements, configuring and evaluating AI tools, building bespoke AI-powered solutions, and establishing scalable workflows throughout the organization. Your efforts will help every team at Checkr unlock the full potential of AI.
In this role, you will embed with internal teams to deeply understand their workflows, gather requirements, identify high-impact AI use cases, and translate business needs into actionable technical solutions. You will own and facilitate recurring AI office hours for drop-in support and guidance, design and lead company-wide AI hackathons to inspire experimentation and knowledge sharing, and evaluate, configure, and recommend the right AI tools and platforms for the organization. Additionally, you will design, develop, and deploy custom AI solutions tailored to specific team needs, develop reusable playbooks and resources, and lead hands-on training sessions to teach teams how to effectively use AI tools.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent experience, with a graduate degree being a plus. You should have 5-7+ years of experience in engineering, solutions engineering, or technical enablement roles, with a track record of deploying solutions that measurably enhance productivity. Additionally, you should have 4+ years of hands-on experience developing AI-centric products and solutions, including machine learning, generative AI, LLMs, RAG architectures, agentic frameworks, and prompt engineering. Deep proficiency in Python and experience with AI frameworks and tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, OpenAI API, and similar are required, along with familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex AI concepts accessible to diverse audiences, are also essential.

The base salary range for this role in San Francisco, CA is $177,000 - $208,000 USD.
