Sr. Manager, Business & Legal Affairs (1 Year Maternity Cover)
This is a fixed-term position to cover maternity leave and ensure continuity of legal support during the leave period. As a Manager, Business & Legal Affairs, you will be mainly responsible for reviewing contracts relating to the business operations. You will also provide basic legal opinions to enable management to make appropriate decisions in compliance with contractual and legal obligations in Korea.
Key responsibilities include reviewing contracts related to business operations, such as distribution deals, catalogue acquisition deals, artist contracts, investment-related deals, live events, marketing activities, and service agreements. You will provide legal support and analysis to assist management's decision-making, ensuring compliance with relevant laws including the Copyright Act, Anti-Competition Act, Civil Act, Commercial Code, Privacy Act, Labor Act, Framework Act on Artificial Intelligence, and fair trade-related laws. Additionally, you will support effective communication between the headquarters and the Korea office to ensure adherence to Sony Music Entertainment's policies.
The role also involves supporting internal discussions on dispute resolution strategies, summarizing legal considerations for management, and providing assistance to external counsel during litigation proceedings. Furthermore, you will stay informed of legislative or policy changes that may affect the industry and support communications with industry associations as needed.
Candidates should be qualified as a lawyer in Korea or the US, or hold a bachelor's degree in law in Korea with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of legal experience in the entertainment industry. Fluency in Korean and English, along with excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. The ability to work independently while maintaining full communication with supervisors and other internal and external stakeholders is also required.
Preferred qualifications include 5 to 7 years of legal-related experience, preferably in-house, within the entertainment industry, especially focused on music. On-site experience in a music business-related department and experience collaborating with music industry organizations are advantageous.
