Spacecraft Structures Analyst
Muon Space is seeking an experienced and passionate Spacecraft Structures Analyst to join our dynamic team in San Jose, California. As an early-stage startup dedicated to developing low Earth orbit satellite constellations for mission-critical data, we value individuals with a total ownership mindset and exceptional attention to detail. This role offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the design and development of robust spacecraft hardware that meets stringent requirements on time.
In this position, you will take full lifecycle ownership of spacecraft structures, from initial conceptual design and quick analyses to detailed finite element modeling and test support. Your responsibilities will include finding solutions aligned with the company's risk posture, suggesting alternatives to traditional approaches, and specifying associated risks. Additionally, you will make economically sound decisions balancing rapid capability demonstration with scalable deployment, create quick concepts and models to inspire the team during early program phases, establish engineering standards and tools to instill a culture of rigor in mechanical design, and define and drive mechanical/structural validation and test approaches.
The ideal candidate holds a B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and possesses extensive experience as an individual contributor structural analyst. Proficiency in running detailed finite element analyses for aerospace systems using tools like FEMAP or ANSYS is essential. Experience in designing and executing structural tests for spacecraft, along with software skills in Python, Matlab, Julia, C, C++, Fortran, or similar languages, is highly desirable. Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination skills, coupled with a curiosity-driven approach, are crucial. A dedication to drawing conclusions on the most important factors and data, excitement to work in a fast-paced environment with new opportunities each week, and a desire to change the way the world understands and reacts to climate and environmental data are also important. Occasional travel may be required to execute tests on-site with environmental test vendors.
Muon Space offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $175,000, depending on the candidate's skills, geographic location, qualifications, and experience. In addition to salary, full-time employees receive equity compensation and benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan, short and long-term disability and life insurance. We also offer three weeks paid vacation for new employees, along with 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
