Software Engineer, Linux Kernel

Arista Networks is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Linux Kernel team, responsible for developing and maintaining the Linux kernel within our Extensible Operating System (EOS). This role involves integrating the latest developments from the upstream Linux Kernel community and designing new kernel features to enhance our networking solutions. As part of a collaborative team, you will work closely with hardware engineers and contribute to the evolution of our products.

In this position, you will track ongoing developments in the Linux Kernel, identifying features relevant to Arista's products and internal needs. Your responsibilities include developing and maintaining EOS Kernel features and tests using C, C++, and Python, as well as building automated tests and infrastructure to validate these features. Additionally, you will work with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify new kernel-dependent hardware components like CPUs and NICs for integration into Arista products.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, with at least 3 years of related post-graduate work experience. Expert knowledge and extensive experience programming in C are required, with familiarity in C++ and Python being desirable. Significant hands-on experience troubleshooting issues, fixing bugs, and developing features in the Linux kernel is essential, along with a strong understanding of Linux kernel architecture and IP networking principles.

Arista offers a competitive base salary ranging from $95,000 to $145,000, depending on factors such as skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and work location. Employees are also entitled to benefits including medical, dental, vision, wellbeing programs, income protection, and a Group Retirement Savings Plan. Certain roles may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and equity.
