Senior Systems Engineer - Commissioning and Characterisation
Graphcore is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join their System QA team, focusing on commissioning and characterisation of next-generation AI computing architectures. This role involves investigating system behaviour under real-world workloads, from rack to data centre scale, to provide insights into performance, scalability, and reliability. The position is available in both Bristol and London, UK, offering a hybrid working model.
In this role, you will design experiments and benchmark AI workloads to analyse hardware-software interactions at scale. Your work will involve developing automation and tooling to collect, analyse, and visualise system metrics, turning unexpected behaviours into measurable evidence. Collaboration with infrastructure engineers, architects, and application specialists will be key to understanding and improving system performance across the stack.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using Python for automation, data analysis, and developing engineering tools. A curiosity-driven approach to investigating complex systems and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly are essential. Experience with AI workloads, benchmarking, systems architecture, parallel and distributed computing, automation, containers, or modern orchestration infrastructure is valuable.
Graphcore offers flexible working arrangements, generous leave, and retirement planning support with up to a 5% matched pension. Employees can benefit from phantom equity, providing a share in the company's success, and enjoy thoughtfully designed office spaces with free food and an on-site barista. Additional benefits include income protection, life assurance, and flexible options like private medical insurance and dental cover.
The System QA team at Graphcore is distributed across multiple locations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Regular team meetings encourage sharing ideas, discussing findings, and solving problems together. The company values trust, autonomy, and openness, supporting continuous professional development and offering dedicated time each week for personal growth.
