Senior/Staff Engineer, BE BI
Agoda is seeking a Senior/Staff Engineer to join our high-performance analytics platform team, which powers business intelligence and product decision-making at scale. This team collaborates closely with Data Engineering, BI, and Product departments to deliver governed, reliable, and cost-efficient analytical data services. We focus on hands-on work with distributed systems in production, emphasizing strong engineering ownership, including service level objectives, observability, and incident response.
In this role, you will design, implement, and operate StarRocks clusters to support high concurrency and sub-second analytical queries at scale. Responsibilities include planning and executing StarRocks upgrades with minimal downtime, developing features and performance improvements to enhance stability and throughput, and building backend services for ingestion, connectors, governance, and observability. You will also optimize query performance, implement multi-tenant controls, automate operations using Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code, and collaborate on data modeling and semantic layers.
The ideal candidate has over six years of experience in backend engineering and distributed systems, with expert proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20) for performance-critical systems. Strong foundations in algorithms, concurrency, networking, and Linux systems are essential. Hands-on experience with MPP/OLAP systems like StarRocks, ClickHouse, or Presto/Trino is required, along with practical expertise in query tuning and columnar analytics concepts. Proven experience operating distributed systems in production and familiarity with containers, orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code tools are also necessary.
