Senior Software Engineer, EOS - Sydney
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Extensible Operating System (EOS) team in Sydney, you will be integral to developing the software that powers the world's largest data center networks. This team is responsible for creating and delivering foundational networking features across all of Arista's switching products, operating in a fast-paced, high-caliber global environment.
Your primary responsibilities will include designing and developing innovative networking features using C/C++ and Python for Arista's unique, Linux-based EOS. You will collaborate closely with product management, customers, and fellow engineers to define functional requirements and technical designs for new EOS capabilities. Additionally, you will take full ownership of your work by writing functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and automated tests to ensure robust, high-quality code. Providing technical leadership, contributing to code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers will also be key aspects of your role. Furthermore, you will work directly with Customer Support Engineers to triage, debug, and resolve complex issues found in customer networks.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (BSc, MS, or PhD), along with strong, demonstrable software development experience in C/C++ and/or Python. Solid experience with software development in a UNIX/Linux environment and a strong interest in computer networking technologies are essential. An applied understanding of software engineering principles is also required. Preferred qualifications include a deep understanding of L2/L3 networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, Spanning Tree, LACP), hands-on experience in the design and development of Ethernet bridging or routing-related software or distributed systems software, and familiarity with infrastructure functions related to distributed systems such as messaging, signaling, databases, and command line interface techniques.
