Senior Software Engineer, Backend
Flex is a growth-stage FinTech company headquartered in New York City, dedicated to revolutionizing the rent payment experience. By enabling users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that aligns with their finances, Flex aims to empower renters with greater flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. As part of our expansion, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, to join our dynamic team.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and scaling backend systems that support key business features, including Payment, Billing, Identity, and partner integrations. Collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering peers, you will implement robust, fault-tolerant services and APIs that enhance user and partner experiences. Your work will involve rolling out changes in an agile manner, favoring small, frequent iterations to address our users' most pressing rent payment challenges.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years focused on Java development. Proficiency in Java frameworks and tools such as Spring (core/web/boot), Gradle, and JUnit is essential. Experience with service-oriented architecture, REST APIs, message queues, and scalable architectures is required. Familiarity with AWS services like EKS, Aurora RDS, Elasticache, and DynamoDB, as well as containerization tools, is also necessary. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are important.
Flex offers a competitive compensation package, with salaries varying based on primary work location. For Tier 1 locations (NYC/SF/Seattle), the salary range is $172,000 to $212,000 USD.
