Senior Python Software Engineer (Backend Workflows Team) - open to remote across ANZ

Canva is seeking a Senior Python Software Engineer to join the Backend Workflows Team, focusing on enhancing the Python development ecosystem to support the company's AI strategy. This role involves collaborating with infrastructure and product teams to define development patterns and documentation, ensuring high standards of engineering excellence. The position is open to remote candidates across Australia and New Zealand.

Key responsibilities include architecting and delivering solutions that improve the Python developer experience, advocating for best practices across the organization, and developing internal observability tools to inform strategic decisions. The engineer will also lead organization-wide migrations and tooling transformations, and shape the long-term vision for integrated development environment (IDE) tooling to meet evolving industry trends.

The ideal candidate will have expert-level Python experience, with familiarity in modern development ecosystems and tools such as Bazel being advantageous. Demonstrated leadership in complex engineering initiatives, a deep commitment to systems architecture, and extensive experience with containerization, Terraform, and GitOps are essential. A background in integrating machine learning applications into platform or backend systems is also desirable.
