Senior Litigation Counsel or Litigation Counsel
Americans United for Separation of Church and State is seeking a dedicated and experienced attorney to join our legal team as a Senior Litigation Counsel or Litigation Counsel. This role involves working closely with a team committed to defending the constitutional principle of church-state separation, ensuring religious freedom for all individuals. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and managing a diverse portfolio of cases, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and representing clients in court proceedings. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with colleagues on legal strategy, engaging in legal research and writing, and participating in public education initiatives. The role also involves monitoring legal developments related to church-state separation and providing guidance on potential litigation opportunities.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of a state bar. A minimum of five years of litigation experience is required, with a strong preference for experience in constitutional law, civil rights, or related fields. Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
