Senior Hardware Systems Engineer – AI Rack & Cluster Infrastructure
Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer to lead the design, validation, and deployment of next-generation rack architectures optimized for hyperscale data centers. This role involves collaborating with hyperscale customers, strategic partners, and cross-functional teams—including hardware, software, thermal, and manufacturing engineers—to deliver rack-scale solutions for large AI and cloud deployments. The engineer will ensure that Arista platforms integrate seamlessly into expansive AI and cloud clusters.
Key responsibilities include owning the rack-scale design and deployment of AI and cloud infrastructure by translating cluster architectures into production-ready rack solutions. The engineer will integrate networking, power, and cooling into high-density GPU environments to ensure performance, scalability, and serviceability. Additionally, the role involves leading last-mile execution for hyperscale deployments, working directly with customers and internal teams to bring clusters from design to reality. Designing and optimizing rack layouts and cabling systems, including fiber/copper routing, patch panels, and high-density interconnects, is also a critical aspect of the position. The engineer will drive cross-functional delivery across hardware, thermal, manufacturing, and software teams from concept through new product introduction (NPI) and volume deployment, as well as create deployment standards and technical documentation used by operators and customers.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with at least 8 years of experience in rack integration, data center engineering, or hardware systems design, including hyperscale or large enterprise deployments. Deep expertise in structured cabling, high-density networking (Ethernet QSFP/OSFP, PCIe), and spine/leaf architectures is essential. Proven experience with rack cooling (liquid interfaces, thermal optimization) and power systems (PDUs, busways) is required. Strong project leadership with NPI experience managing cross-functional deliverables is necessary, along with the ability to generate and manage cluster bills of materials (BOMs), rack elevations, and deployment standards under tight timelines. Excellent technical writing skills for data sheets, briefs, and documentation, as well as troubleshooting and communication abilities, are also important. The candidate should have excellent communication, internal and external stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience with Arista EOS, hyperscale deployments, or ORv3 rack standards. A strong understanding of computer and cluster networks, with exposure to Arista EOS or cloud networking environments, is advantageous. Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and knowledge of regulatory compliance are beneficial. Experience working directly with hyperscalers or large-scale AI/ML cluster deployments is desirable. The ability to build or specify automation tools for BOM management, configuration generation, or deployment workflows is a plus. Proven ability to manage and work with remote vendors and integration partners is valuable. Familiarity with global safety and regulatory requirements for rack systems and experience with developing or driving standards or multi-source agreements are also preferred.
The base pay range for this position is $131,000 to $175,000, depending on experience and location. Compensation includes equity, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and U.S. location. The salary range provided reflects the base salary and, in addition, may also be eligible for discretionary Arista bonuses, commissions, equity, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, wellbeing, tax savings, and income protection. The recruiting team can share more details during the hiring process specific to the role and location.
