The Senior Engineering Manager will lead the Payments platform team, overseeing systems responsible for charging customers, collecting funds, and handling refunds. This role involves managing the end-to-end payment lifecycle, including authorization, charge, refund, reconciliation, and ensuring financial integrity across multiple payment rails and processors. The manager will guide a team of backend engineers to build a reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient payments platform that supports rapid product expansion while safeguarding customer funds.

Key responsibilities include defining and executing the long-term architecture of Flex’s multi-rail payments platform, ensuring financial correctness across ledgering and settlement processes, and driving reliability for mission-critical money movement systems. The role also entails leading cross-team initiatives, managing the delivery of large projects from concept to production, and improving system scalability and observability. Additionally, the manager will mentor and grow a team of backend engineers, establish a culture of operational excellence, and ensure high availability and financial accuracy SLAs.

Candidates should have over 8 years of backend engineering experience, with at least 3 years in engineering management. Experience in building or operating payments, fintech, or banking systems is essential, along with a strong understanding of distributed systems reliability and data integrity. A track record of delivering large cross-functional initiatives is also required. Preferred qualifications include experience with various payment rails, integrating payment processors, and familiarity with financial ledger or accounting principles.

Flex offers a competitive compensation package, with salaries varying based on work location. For Tier A locations (e.g., NYC/SF), the salary range is $240,000 to $300,000 USD; for Tier B, $216,000 to $270,000 USD; and for Tier C, $204,000 to $255,000 USD.
