Senior Employment Counsel, APAC
Canva, a rapidly growing Australian multinational software company, is seeking a Senior Employment Counsel to join its Global Employment Legal Team. This role focuses on employment law matters across the APAC region, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Philippines. The position involves close collaboration with People teams, business leaders, and legal colleagues to support Canva's expansion and evolving workforce model.
The Senior Employment Counsel will provide strategic, commercially pragmatic advice on various employment law issues, such as performance management, exits, investigations, and regulatory compliance. The role includes developing and implementing scalable employment frameworks, policies, and processes, as well as managing employment-related legal risks. Additionally, the position involves delivering training to People teams and business leaders, collaborating on cross-border matters, and managing employment disputes and regulatory inquiries.
Candidates should be admitted to practice in Australia or an equivalent jurisdiction, with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience specializing in employment law, preferably within a leading law firm or in-house legal team, ideally in the tech industry. Experience working across multiple jurisdictions or in a multinational environment is highly regarded. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to balance legal risk with commercial and people considerations.
