Senior Data Scientist - Security
As a Senior Data Scientist in Canva's Security group, you will be embedded within an analytics team dedicated to solving complex data challenges across various security domains. Your role involves building analytical models, maintaining backend services, and providing leadership with critical metrics to inform decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to influence security strategies and investments through data-driven insights.
Your primary responsibilities include developing and maintaining security metrics that guide leadership decisions, such as scorecards and KPIs in areas like vulnerability management, identity and access, and compliance. You will design data models, build dashboards, define objectives with security leads, and translate data findings into actionable recommendations. Additionally, you will own the evaluation framework for AI-powered security services, curating datasets, designing quality metrics, and iterating on classification approaches. Addressing real-time security challenges, you will partner with security engineers and privacy teams to develop analytical solutions for large-scale data problems, including streaming analytics and near-real-time threat detection.
The ideal candidate possesses strong SQL and Python skills, with hands-on experience in modern data stack tools like dbt and cloud data warehouses. You should be capable of managing problems end-to-end, from defining measurement criteria to building data models and communicating findings to non-technical stakeholders. Experience in designing evaluation frameworks for machine learning or AI systems, including ground truth curation and feedback loops, is essential. Clear and concise communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to work independently in a small team, proactively identifying and addressing key issues.
