Tyson & Mendes LLP is seeking a seasoned trial attorney to join their Complex Trial Team as Senior Counsel in Orange County, California. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-exposure insurance defense cases within a firm renowned for its innovative strategies and commitment to preventing Nuclear Verdicts®. As Senior Counsel, the successful candidate will manage complex, high-value litigation cases from inception through resolution. Key responsibilities include developing and executing case strategies, overseeing all stages of litigation—including pleadings, discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, and settlement negotiations—and serving as lead counsel in jury trials, bench trials, and mediations. Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with clients, insurance carriers, and adjusters to provide clear legal advice and case assessments, as well as supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff.

The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in California, with eligibility to practice in federal courts. A minimum of eight years of experience in insurance defense litigation, with a strong focus on complex trial work, is required. Demonstrated success as lead trial counsel in multiple high-stakes cases, along with exceptional oral advocacy, legal writing, and negotiation skills, are essential. A background in catastrophic injury, construction defect, or professional liability cases is preferred.

The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $160,000 to $190,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Attorneys are eligible for an annual billable hours bonus starting at $10,000, with additional tiers aggregating at $7,500 each. Comprehensive benefits coverage is offered, including plans available at zero employee cost, and a 401(k) program with a 100% match on the first 3% contributed and a 50% match on the following 4-5%.
