Senior Backend Engineer (Golang/Platform)
Bird is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer specializing in Golang and platform development to join their dynamic team. As a global leader in micromobility, Bird is dedicated to transforming urban transportation by providing cleaner, more connected, and sustainable mobility solutions. The company operates in over 200 cities worldwide, offering on-demand electric vehicle services that have facilitated more than eighty-seven million rides globally.
In this role, the Senior Backend Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing backend and infrastructure solutions to support Bird's business growth. Key duties include collaborating with product, data, vehicle, and infrastructure teams to develop solutions that align with business needs, proactively monitoring and improving system health to address performance bottlenecks and outages, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. The engineer will also work on enhancing CI/CD pipelines, automating deployments, and implementing best practices to increase engineering efficiency.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years of professional backend experience. Proficiency in Golang and JVM-based languages (Java, Kotlin, or Scala) is essential, along with experience in building distributed systems and real-time data pipelines using technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS. Hands-on experience with communication protocols and interfacing with IoT devices is also required. Expertise in CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions, as well as observability platforms such as Datadog or Grafana, is necessary to proactively monitor, debug, and optimize large-scale systems.
The compensation for this role ranges from $137,000 to $185,000 USD annually.
