Senior Associate General Counsel (Franchise Brands)
The Senior Associate General Counsel (Franchise Brands) at Compass will be an integral member of the Franchise Brands Legal Department, overseeing legal matters for various franchised brands, including Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate, CENTURY 21®, Coldwell Banker®, Corcoran®, Christie’s International Real Estate, ERA®, Sotheby’s International Realty®, and @properties®. This role is based in New Jersey and involves close collaboration with multiple departments to support the company's growth and compliance objectives.
In this position, the attorney will draft and negotiate franchise agreements and related documents to facilitate business expansion and retention. They will also negotiate vendor contracts, particularly those involving SaaS and information technology, and review marketing materials to ensure legal compliance. Providing expert legal advice on laws, rules, and regulations affecting the business, as well as guiding business clients to achieve success while minimizing risk, are key aspects of the role. Additionally, the attorney will partner with the business on critical initiatives, proactively identify potential issues, and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and have 7-10 years of legal experience, with a strong emphasis on franchise law. In-house legal experience is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, and strong organizational skills are essential. A deep understanding of franchise laws and regulations, a consultative approach to supporting business objectives while mitigating risk, and a high degree of integrity are also important.
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $190,000 to $250,000 annually. Additional compensation elements, such as bonuses, commissions, or equity grants, may be available, along with a comprehensive benefits program.
