Safety Officer (Operations and Maintenance)
The Safety Officer (Operations and Maintenance) at BESIX is responsible for ensuring the safe execution of daily operations and maintenance activities within the Al Warsan Maintenance department. This role involves maintaining a continuous on-site presence to monitor safety compliance and support the Permit to Work (PTW) process for maintenance and high-risk activities. The Safety Officer reports directly to the BESIX O&M OHS Engineer.
Key responsibilities include verifying isolation points, lockout devices, and energy control measures in accordance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. The Safety Officer confirms that permits for hot work, confined space, electrical, chemical, working at height, and excavation meet required safety standards. Additionally, the role involves identifying unsafe acts and conditions, delivering toolbox talks and pre-task briefings, providing bilingual occupational health and safety training, assisting with incident and near-miss reporting, and supporting the induction and onboarding of new staff and contractors.
The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), with proven experience in operations and maintenance, utilities, process plants, or industrial operations and maintenance. A high school diploma is essential, while a bachelor's degree in engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred. Required certifications include the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and a KHDA OHS-related certification. Additional HSE certifications, such as OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, Fire Safety, and Confined Space Entry, are considered advantageous. Practical knowledge of PTW, LOTO, confined spaces, H₂S, ATEX, electrical safety, and chemical hazards is essential. The candidate should be capable of writing basic reports and using Excel and Word, and must be fit to work in industrial environments and in shift-based operations.
